New Solihull restaurants opening in 2022 bringing cuisines from across the world

The new year brings with it a host of new restaurants to try in Solihull.

The borough’s food and drink scene has not only weathered the storm of the Covid pandemic but is emerging more diverse than ever before.

In the last year alone, the town has seen the arrival of several new names, including French-inspired brasserie, Cote, on the high street and independent British restaurant, The Fox, in nearby Catherine-de-Barnes.

Touchwood Shopping Centre has also welcomed back Handmade Burger, which reopened in January after the collapsed brand was saved by a former employee.

And foodies can expect more good things to come in 2022, with various openings bringing cuisines from all around the world to the borough.

From flavour-packed Indian mixed grills to Japanese sushi rolls and a seven-course British tasting menu, we’ve put together a round-up of some of the new menus making their way to the area this year.


Chef Rob Palmer is launching a new restaurant, Toffs, in Solihull.

Acclaimed hotel chef Rob Palmer is set to open his first restaurant in Solihull town centre in March.

‘Toffs’ will be the first solo venture from local chef Rob Palmer, the former Hampton Manor head chef who won the hotel’s Peel’s restaurant its first Michelin Star in 2016.

The 34-year-old cook, from Castle Bromwich, is opening the fine dining eatery in the old CeX unit in Drury Lane.

Diners will be offered a six to seven-course seasonal tasting menu centred around fresh British produce in an industrial-style setting, with just 26 seats and an open-plan kitchen.

This new Spanish tapas bar promises to bring a slice of the Mediterranean coast to Solihull town centre.

Independent restaurant Alioli is set to launch at the old Bella Italia unit, with a pledge to “revive the Spanish food scene in the Midlands”.

The eatery was originally due to open last year, but bosses are now looking to have the restaurant up and running sometime this spring.

Alioli will be serving up authentic tapas with a contemporary edge, including its own spin on the popular Catalan sauce that the bar is named after.

Soho Tavern

The old Beeches site in Hampton-in-Arden has been taken over by a popular Birmingham Indian restaurant, with ambitious plans to transform the vacant site into a modern gastropub.

Soho Tavern is scheduled to open its doors in April/May.

The owners already run a well-known restaurant by the same name in Park Road, which has become famous for its mixed grills and spicy chilli chips.

CGI images of the new eatery show a bright and modern restaurant area, with views over the bowling green, and a separate drinks area with a TV playing sports.

Japanese kitchen and bar KIBOU is set to launch inside the Grade II listed high street space previously occupied by Café Rouge.

Famous for its sushi rolls, the restaurant will be serving a range of classic and contemporary Japanese dishes – from steaming bowls of ramen to pillowy steamed bao buns and handmade gyoza.

The menu will include KIBOU’s signature volcano roll – with salmon, avocado and tobiko futomaki, tempura fried and served with house sauce – plus an extensive vegan offering, a range of ‘moriawase’ sharing platters and Japanese-inspired desserts.

Due to open in April this year, KIBOU’s new Solihull restaurant will boast a mesmerising decor similar to its existing sites in London’s Battersea, Cheltenham and Clifton – with opulent Japanese block print textiles and brightly-coloured wall coverings.

There will also be a standalone bar serving signature Japanese cocktails, no-and-low options, a selection of whisky, sake and umeshu, as well as brewed beers and authentic high-balls
