PORTLAND, Maine — Even though it expands domestic flights through a COVID-19 pandemic vacation rebound, Portland Worldwide Jetport officers say potential progress lies abroad.

Past summertime, the airport saw a surge in new travellers as the vaccine rollout and the scrapping of travel prohibitions encouraged extra to just take flights to and from Maine. Us citizens traveled around the current Presidents Day weekend in the optimum numbers considering the fact that Thanksgiving. Portland followed them in seeing high visitors.

The Portland jetport has announced three new areas this summer months: Portland-based Elite Airways will be traveling to St. Augustine, Florida, in the Jacksonville metro region and bringing back flights to Vero Seaside, Florida. Southwest will operate the airport’s initially flight to Nashville, Tennessee, beginning in June.

All those additions are in line with a selection of new non-cease flights the jetport has included in the latest yrs. Elevated U.S. flights now suggest the airport have to consider a seem at bringing international flights back again, assistant airport director Zach Sundquist said. It does not have any now and no key airline has offered them greatly there since Air Canada still left in 2013.

“Our real upcoming prospects lie in international,” Sundquist said.
